On the first day of the Riverside City Tournament, the Cerritos College women's water polo team split their two games and will have two more on Saturday. The Falcons (6-2) dropped their first game 13-8 to Golden West College and then came back for a big 7-6 win over Ventura College. On Saturday, the team will take on Allan Hancock College at  10:10 a.m. and then close out the tournament with a 1:25 p.m. game against  the host Tigers.

Cerritos vs. Golden West: Facing one of the state's perennial powerhouses, the Falcons trailed 7-1 at halftime, but played a much stronger second half. Consecutive late goals by sophomore Mikaela Padilla (Schurr HS) got the team to within 11-7, but the Rustlers (7-0) scored two of the game's final three goals. Padilla led the team with four goals, while sophomore Jenny Parra (Schurr HS) and freshman Isabella Sierra (California HS) each scored twice for Cerritos. The freshman goalkeeper tandem of Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) and Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) shared duties and had two saves.

Cerritos vs. Ventura: Trailing 6-4 in the fourth quarter, the Falcons were able to keep the Pirates (2-3) off the scoreboard for the final 5:23 of the game. Freshman Kayla Peko (La Habra HS) got the team a little closer with her goal :13 seconds later, while sophomore Channon Owens (Kennedy HS) tied the game with her second goal of the match with 2:48 left on the clock. Padilla scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal with 2:02 remaining and the Falcon defense did the rest. Ventura called a late timeout to set up a final chance to send the game into overtime, but Cerritos, led by Tostado's four saves, turned them away. Peko also scored twice, while Sierra led the team with six steals.
