On the second day of the San Diego Mesa Tournament, the Cerritos College women's water polo team came back for a double overtime win over Grossmont College, 12-10. The Falcons (11-5) concluded the tournament with a 15-9 loss at the hands of Ventura College. The team will resume South Coast Conference play on Monday with a 3:00 p.m. match against El Camino College.

Cerritos vs. Grossmont: Trailing 9-4 midway the third period, the Falcons started their comeback by scoring the next four goals of the match and limited the Griffins to just one goal the remainder of the game. Goals by Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS), Isabella Sierra (California HS), Kayla Peko (La Serna HS) and Jenny Parra (California HS) got the team to within 9-8 in the fourth. After Grossmont took a 10-8 lead with 2:51 remaining in regulation, Padilla scored with 2:28 left and then tied the game with 1:44 left in the fourth period. The game went into overtime when neither team could break the tie. Cerritos took their first lead since the first period when Padilla scored her fifth goal of the game with 1:40 left in the first overtime, while Sierra added an insurance goal in the second overtime to seal the win. Freshman goalie Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) came on in the second half and played the remainder of the game and posted seven saves.

Cerritos vs. Ventura: It was a close 10-8 Pirates lead early in the third period, but the Falcons struggled to score the remainder of the game. By contrast, Ventura would score five of the final six goals of the game to earn the win. Cerritos took 25 shots in the game, but could not score when necessary to stay close to the Pirates. The Falcons never led in the game, but were tied at 6-6 in the second quarter after a Hinojosa goal. The trio of Peko, Sierra and Padilla all scored twice, while freshman Elisa Prohroff (Schurr HS) had five steals in the loss. Medina and freshman Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) combined for seven saves.
