W. Water Polo: One win in two games on second day

On the second day of the Battle at the Beach, the Cerritos College women's water polo team picked up one win in two games. The Falcons (14-9) opened with a 10-3 win over Palomar College and followed that an 8-5 setback against San Diego Mesa with the games played at Cypress College. The team resumes South Coast Conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College for a 3:00 p.m. match.

Cerritos vs. Palomar: Trailing 3-2 at halftime, the Falcons shut out the Comets in the second half, while outscoring them 8-0. The trio of Jenny Parra (Schurr HS), Isabella Sierra (Caifornia HS) and Kayla Peko (La Habra HS) all scored in the third quarter, with Mikaela Padilla (Schurr HS) accounting for three of the team's five fourth quarter goals. Padilla was joined by Sierra with three goals, while Sierra also led the team in steals (7) and assists (3). Padilla and Channon Owens (Kennedy HS) both recorded four steals, as the Falcons finished with 20 in the game. Freshman goalkeepers Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) and Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) combined for nine saves.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: In their final game of the tournament, the Falcons surrendered the first five goals of the game and trailed, 6-2 at intermission. Cerritos started to generate some offense in the second half and got to within 6-4 after Sierra scores with 3:26 remaining in the third quarter. The Olympians (10-6) finished off the game by scoring two of the three goals in the fourth quarter. Sierra led the team with three goals, while Peko had three steals. Medina finished with nine saves, and Tostado had four.
