In the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the Cerritos College women's water polo team saw their season come to an end with a 10-7 loss to Ventura College. The Falcons (16-11), who entered the post-season seeded #10 after coming in third place in the South Coast Conference, were making their first playoff appearance since 2012.

Facing the #7-seeded Pirates (24-8) for the third time this season, Cerritos trailed the whole game, but remained within a goal through the first half. Ventura opened the second half by scoring the first two goals, and the Falcons were unable to catch up.

After surrendering the first two goals of the game, sophomore Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS) got the team on the board with 4:50 left in the opening quarter. They closed the gap to both 3-3 and 4-4 on respective goals by sophomore Mikaela Padilla (Schurr HS) and Kayla Peko (La Habra HS) early in the second quarter. Ventura took a 6-4 lead until Padilla cached in on a man-advantage goal with :20 seconds left before halftime for a 6-5 deficit.

The Pirates, behind five goals from Lauren Wiksell, opened the second half the same as the first half by posting the first two goals. Hinojosa got the Falcons to within 8-6 with 1:35 left in the third quarter, but they would be as close as the team would get in their season-ending loss.

Hinojosa and Padilla each scored three times, as the Falcons took 29 shots. In goal, freshman Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) played the majority of the game and posted seven saves.
