On the strength of an eight-goal first  period, the Cerritos College women's water polo team recorded a 14-2 South Coast Conference win against visiting East Los Angeles College on Wednesday. The win by the Falcons improves their season record to 5-1, while they are 2-0 in conference play. The team will compete in the Riverside Tournament over the weekend and open with games against Golden West College and Ventura College on Friday. The second day features contests against Allan Hancock College and finishes against the host Tigers.

In the eight-goal first period, Cerritos had six different goal scorers, with the tandem of freshmen Isabella Sierra (California HS) and Jackie Oliveros (Gahr HS) each scoring twice. It was a 4-0 lead just 1:49 into the match and the Falcons scored the first 11 goals on the day.

Sophomore Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS), who led the team with four goals, scored early in the second period and added two more quick goals in the fourth quarter. Sierra, Olivaros and freshman Alyssa Parsley (Lakewood HS) all scored twice for the Falcons, who posted 24 steals as a team. Olivaros had four steals, with sophomore Maria Figueroa (Schurr HS) adding four steals.

Freshman starting goalie Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) played the first half and was asked to make just one save, with freshman Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) turning away four shots in the second half of play.
