For the first time since the 2012 season, the Cerritos College women's water polo team has gotten off to a 5-0 start in South Coast Conference play. The Falcons (12-5) defeated visiting El Camino College, 17-4 on Monday and are currently tied for first place. They will get a huge test next Wednesday, when Mt. San Antonio College (9-4, 5-0) comes to the Falcon Aquatic Center for a 3:00 p.m. match with first place on the line.

In the win over the Warriors (2-8, 1-3), Cerritos scored the first 13 goals of the game and were never tested. Five different players scored in the first period, with four of them recording a pair of goals by halftime. The Falcons also collected 24 steals as a team, with sophomore Maria Figueroa (Schurr HS) and freshman Isabella Sierra (California HS) combining for 11 steals.

Sierra and sophomore Vanessa Hinojosa (Bell Gardens HS) led the way with four goals apiece, with freshman Kayla Peko (La Habra HS) finishing with three goals. As they have been doing all season, the freshmen goalkeeping tandem of Ivanna Tostado (Troy HS) and Dulce Medina (Paramount HS) split the game. Tostado didn't allow a goal and had seven saves, along with two steals, while Medina turned away three shots.
