W. Cross Country: Cerritos secures fifth place at invitational

Competing in the Manny Bautista XC Invitational in San Diego on Friday, the Cerritos College women's cross country team turned in a fifth place performance. The Falcons, who finished with 181 team points, were bested by just two California Community Colleges, with the other two coming from Arizona. The team will run in the Bronco Invitational next Friday, which will take place at Baylands Park in Santa Clara.

The first Cerritos runner to complete the 5K course was freshman Samantha Martinez (Fountain Valley HS), as her time of 20:34.3 put her in 22nd place out of the 105 entries. She was followed by freshman Megan Feitz (Fountain Valley HS) with a 39th place time of 21:26.2. Feitz was able to hold off a couple of runners to secure her position. Finishing just five seconds apart were 43rd place Delilah Chavez (Lakewood HS) and 45th place Lauren Berg (Fountain Valley HS). Chavez crossed the finish line in a time of 21:40.3, with Berg finishing in 21:45.7.

The final Falcon runner to help compile the team score was Leslie Juarez (Warren HS), as she finished 51st overall in a time of 22:10.5 and pulled away from several runners down the stretch. Also competing for Cerritos was Mia Najera (Warren HS), who took 68th place overall in 23:15.8
