Last season, the Cerritos College women's cross country team turned in an eighth place finish at the CCCAA State Championships. On Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno, the Falcons compiled 273 team points to finish in ninth place. They were three points out of eighth place, with seven of the top nine places being schools from Southern California.

Running the 3.1 mile course, the Falcons were led by freshman Samantha Martinez (Fountain Valley HS), who posted a 37th place time of 19:48.0. She pulled ahead of several runners in the back stretch of the final mile and held off three other runners who finished within five seconds of Martinez. Just :11 seconds behind her was freshman teammate Megan Feitz (Fountain Valley HS), who crossed the finish line in 19:59.1, which put her in 41st place out of 155 total runners. Just like Martinez, Feitz was able to pull ahead of five other runners late in the race to secure her position.

It was a little less than a second later before the third Cerritos runner could complete the course, as freshman Delilah Chavez (Lakewood HS) turned in a 64th place time of 20:50.5, which was .02 of a second ahead of Santa Rosa College's Elisa Quintero Cantu. Next up for the Falcons was freshman Leslie Juarez (Warren HS), as her clocking of 21:43.5 placed her 98th overall, with sophomore Lauren Berg (Fountain Valley HS) earning the team's fifth scoring runners, as she crossed the finish line in 22:15.0, good for 113th place.As a freshman, Berg was the 10th place finisher in a time of 18:54.3.

Also competing for Cerritos on the day were freshman Mia Najera (Warren HS), who came in 123rd place in a time of 22:44.7, while freshman Andrea Villalta (Norwalk HS) recorded a time of 23:07.0, which put her in 129th place.
