Playing their fourth match in the last seven days, the Cerritos College men's tennis team had enough energy to defeat visiting Riverside City College, 6-3 on Tuesday in a non-conference match. The Falcons (5-1) escaped doubles play with a 2-1 lead and then won four of the six singles matches to come away with the team win. The team will take a week off before they host Los Angeles Pierce College for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference match next Tuesday.

Two of the three doubles matches finished with 9-8 scores, as the pairing of freshman Mathieu David (Nines, France) and sophomore Milos Zoric (Gimnazjia Indija, Serbia) came from behind to record their win. The #1 doubles team of sophomore Amadi Kagoma (Malezi School, Kenya) and freshman Antonio Torrebella-Clark (Cypress HS) posted a convincing 8-2 decision.

A pair of singles matches were extended to a tie-breaker, with David fighting off a nagging injury to post a 6-1, 6-7, 10-7 win in the #6 position. Freshman Mark Antoniuk (W. 124 School, Russia) won the first set against Antoine Voisin in the #3 singles match, 6-4, but lost concentration and was defeated in the next two sets, 3-6, 4-6.

Freshman Henry Ayesiga (Malezi School, Kenya) had an easy time in the #5 position and won, 6-0, 6-0, while Kagoma (6-2, 6-2) posted a straight set win at the top of the ladder. Also winning in singles play was freshman Agustin Lombardi (E.S.O.S., Argentina), who recorded a 6-4, 6-0 win.
