The Cerritos College softball team had several chances to pick up a couple runs in their 4-2 loss to Palomar College on Saturday, but came up short. Taking on the defending state champion Comets, the Falcons (2-1) left runners in scoring position in four different innings.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the top of the third inning, sophomore Camille Manzo (La Habra HS/Sterling (KS) College) led off with a walk and advanced to second base on a single by sophomore Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS). After a fielder's choice, freshman Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS) followed with a single, and then a run-scoring error off the bat of sophomore Mackenzie Kutzke (Los Alamitos HS/University of Montana).

Freshman pitcher Kristen Voller (Norco HS), making her first start of the season, was victimized by a pair of errors, once of which led to the Comets fourth run of the game. She allowed 10 hits on the day, with three of the four runs earned.

The Falcons got to within 3-2 in the top of the fifth on a solo home run from sophomore Jenny Collazo, her second of the season. In the seventh inning, Manzo led off with a base hit, while Collazo drew a walk. After they were advanced with a sacrifice by Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS), Brown and Kutzke each grounded out to end the scoring threat.
