Playing their second doubleheader of the season, the Cerritos College softball team earned a pair of wins over host College of the Canyons on Saturday. The Falcons (13-4), who are 4-0 in doubleheaders this year, opened with a 9-1 win and then followed that with a 10-2 victory that lasted six innings due to the mercy rule. The team will now host East Los Angeles College at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in a South Coast Conference game.

In the opener, Cerritos was holding on to a 4-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning. They scored five times to open a comfortable lead that resulted in their first win of the day. In the seventh inning, freshman Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) singled and stole second base to start the stanza. Jenny Navarro (Warren HS) followed by getting hit by a pitch, with an infield error off a ball hit by Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) loading the bases.

After an out was recorded, Jezeree Misaalefua (Carson HS/Long Beach CC) singled to drive in a run, with both Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS) and Raquel Norzagaray (Pioneer HS) each drawing bases loaded walks to bring home two more runs. Jesseca Martinez (Lakewood HS) and Camille Manzo (La Habra HS/Sterling (KS) College) finished up the scoring with RBI singles.

Kristen Voller (Norco HS) earned the win in the circle with four innings of work and allowed just one and struck out three, while Navarro pitched the final three innings.

The Falcons scored single runs in the first four innings of the second game, while the Cougars cut the lead in half (4-2) with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. Cerritos exploded for six runs in the top of the six to earn the mercy rule win.

With the bases loaded, Navarro doubled home two runs, with Mackenzie Kutzke (Los Alamitos HS/University of Montana) driving in a run with a single. A passed ball brought home another run, while Brown added a two-run single.

Earlier in the game, Kutzke singled home runs in the first and third innings and finished the game with four hits and three RBI. Voller (7-4) picked up her second win of the day with four innings in the circle and struck out four batters.
