Sophomore shortstop Camille Manzo (La Habra HS/Sterling (KS) University) drove home a pair of runs in a three-run fourth inning to lead the Cerritos softball team to a 3-1 South Coast Conference win over Long Beach City College. The win improved the Falcons record to 18-5 overall while they will break their first play tie with Mt. San Antonio on Thursday when they travel to Walnut for a 3:00 p.m. game. Both teams are 8-1 entering Thursday's game.

A pair of Vikings errors opened the third inning for Cerritos. After a two-base error put sophomore second baseman Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) on second base, another error gave the Falcons runners at first and third base. Freshman first baseman Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS) loaded the bases with a bunt that stopped right on the chalk line for a base hit. After a fielder's choice cut down the lead runner at the plate, sophomore outfielder Mackenzie Kutzke (Los Alamitos HS/University of Montana) drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. Then, with two outs, the inning stayed alive when sophomore catcher Jesseca Martinez (Lakewood HS) drew a walk. That set the table for Manzo, who drilled a single up the middle that scored two runs and gave the team a 3-0 lead.

Freshman pitcher Kristen Voller (Norco HS) scattered five singles through the first five innings until the Vikings strung together three straight base hits to account for their lone run. She got out of the inning without any more damage and shut down LBCC in order in the seventh to earn the win.

The two-run single by Manzo was just one of the there  hits on the day for the Falcons, who also drew three walks and benefitted from three LBCC errors.
