Trailing 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Cerritos College softball team was able to score twice, but came up short in a 3-2 decision. The South Coast Conference crossover loss was the first of the season for the Falcons (3-1), who will host Pasadena City College at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday in another conference crossover game at Nancy Kelly Field.

The teams were scoreless heading into the sixth inning, until the Mounties (5-0) broke the game open with three runs, two of which were unearned due to an error. Kayla Sok broke the scoreless tie with a leadoff home run, with Mt. SAC adding a two more runs before the end of the stanza.

In the top of the seventh inning, sophomore Jissel Caballero (Warren HS) led off with a walk and moved to second base on a wild pitch. With two outs and Caballero on third base, freshmen Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) and Emma Wolff (Mayfair HS) both walked to load the bases. Sophomore Ashley Melendez (Magnolia HS) stepped up and drove in a pair of runs with a base hit. With runners at first and third, sophomore Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS) popped up to end the threat and the game.

On the day, the Falcons collected just two hits, but drew five walks and left five runners on base. In addition to the single by Melendez, the only other hit was a two-out single by Lopez in the fifth inning.

Sophomore pitcher Kristen Voller (Norco HS) took the loss, as she went into the sixth inning tossing a shutout. She allowed all three runs on five hits and struck out five batters.
