Sophomore second baseman Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS) hit a two-run home run and drove in four runs to lead the Cerritos College softball team to a 7-0 South Coast Conference crossover win over host Rio Hondo College on Thursday. The win by the Falcons (6-1) was their third in a row and they're scheduled to play a 1:00 p.m. game at Riverside City College on Saturday.

Brown got the team on the board in the top of the third inning with a two-run double. Freshman Rain Vega (La Mirada HS) and sophomore Ashley Melendez (Magnolia HS) led off with consecutive base hits. Then, with two outs, Brown broke the scoreless tie with the two-base hit. With the team leading 5-0, Brown clubbed her first home run of the season, which plated sophomore outfielder Kimberly Olivas (Warren HS), who singled.

Sophomore pitcher Kristen Voller (Norco HS) earned the complete-game shutout win and allowed two hits, while striking out five batters. She allowed just two base runners until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Roadrunners were able to load the bases. She issued two walks and gave up a single before getting Karina Gomez to ground out to end the game.

In a three-run fifth inning, Cerritos took advantage of a Rio Hondo error, which accounted for two of the runs. With two outs and two runners on base, freshman Anika Ortiz (Ocean View HS) singled home a run, which was followed by a throwing error, which allowed the two other runs to come home.
