M. Basketball: Cerritos wins Sequoias Tournament

Led by several outstanding performances, the Cerritos College men's basketball team won all three of their games to capture the championship of the College of the Sequoias Tournament. The Falcons (7-5) opened with a close 62-61 win against Ventura College and then defeated San Bernardino Valley College, 67-57 and closed out the tournament with a 67-54 victory over the host Giants. The team will now compete in the College of the Canyons Tournament and open with a 5:00 p.m. game on December 27 against Orange Coast College.

Cerritos vs. Ventura: In the opening game, the Falcons held off a second half effort by the Pirates (6-7), which included an 11-point halftime lead that almost slipped away. Sophomore TJ Traylor (Dominguez HS), who was named to the All-Tournament team, led all scorers with 17 points, while the tandem of sophomore Jarion Henry (Kimball, TX HS/Trinity Valley, TX CC) and Micah Winn (Crenshaw HS) each adding 10 points. Henry, who was selected the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, contributed seven rebounds and five assists in the win, with sophomore guard Jordan Reise (Huntington Beach HS) netting a trio of three-pointers.

Cerritos vs. San Bernardino Valley: Henry showed his versatility in the win over the Wolverines (15-4) with 12 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots. Although his shot wasn't falling (2-for-7), Henry drained eight of his 10 free throws and led a trio of players in double-figures. Sophomore Victor Jones (Lakewood HS) led the team with 17 points, while Traylor finished with 16 points. Winn added seven points off the bench, with five coming at the charity stripe, as Cerritos converted 29-of-34 free throws, which helped seal the win.

Cerritos vs. College of the Sequoias: In the championship game, Henry secured his MVP nod with 24 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win. The Falcons jumped out to a 14-point lead at the half (33-19), and then played even with the Giants (5-10) in the final 20 minutes. Winn provided bench scoring with 13 points, which included three buckets from three-point range, while sophomore guard Kevin Conrad (Buena Park HS) added six points, seven assists and five rebounds. Reise (six points) hit a pair of three-pointers.
