Cerritos College sophomore guard Victor Jones (Lakewood HS) netted a three-pointer at the end of regulation and then added five overtime points to help the team defeat hist Los Angeles Southwest College, 82-76. The win by the Falcons (8-7) allowed them to get off to a 1-0 start in South Coast Conference play, while the team will now host El Camino College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Trailing 73-76 after a pair of free throws by LA Southwest's A.J. Sims, the Falcons pushed ball upcourt, where Jones was able to clear out on the right side. After a pair of dribbles, he calmly drained a three-pointer to extend the game an extra five minutes. Cerritos trailed by as many as seven points (57-50) with 6:35 remaining and then went on a 10-2 run to take a brief lead at 60-59 with 4:53 left in the second half.

The Falcons never trailed in the extra period, with Jones (26 points, five rebounds, four steals) accounting for five of the 12 points, while the team pulled down 65 rebounds on the night. The taller Cerritos team posted 15 blocked shots, which forced the Cougars (3-12, 0-1) to shoot from the outside, which resulted in an 11-for-30 night from three-point range.

The Cougars held a 67-63 lead with 1:33 left after Sims (20 points) hit a three-pointer, but sophomore forward TJ Traylor (Dominguez HS) and sophomore guard Kevin Conrad (Buena Park HS) each scored from the inside to get the team to within one point with 1:06 left. That was followed by the pair of free throws, which set up the game-tying trey from Jones.

Freshman guard Austin Pope (Burbank HS) swatted away seven shots, while the duo of Traylor and sophomore forward Jarion Henry (Kimball, TX HS/Trinity Valley, TX CC) combined for seven. As for Traylor, he pulled down 19 rebounds to go with his 14 points, while Henry added 10 boards and four assists off the bench. Conrad (Buena Park HS) finished with 16 points and eight rebounds in the win, where the Falcons led by as many as nine points in the first half.
