As their season starts to shift into high gear, the Cerritos College men's track and field team competed in two meets over the weekend. On Friday, they sent several of their distance runners to the Occidental Distance Classic, while on Saturday, the full squad competed in the UC Irvine 4-Way Meet. The Falcons will now travel to Las Vegas this weekend to take part in the UNLV Invitational.

Occidental Distance Classic: Sending just a few runners, Cerritos had entries in the 1500 meters and 5000 meters. Freshman James Yanez (Long Beach Wilson HS) was the first Falcon to finish the 1500 meters, as he posted a time of 4:19.72 to come in 92nd place out of 133 runners, while sophomore Christian Corral (Downey HS/LA Trade Tech CC) placed 94th with a time of 4:19.98. A trio of runners took part in the 5000 meters, with freshman Erick Ayala (Downey HS) posting a 193rd place time of 16:19.22 out of 252 runners. Freshman Diego Munoz (Paramount HS) turned in a 207th place time of 16:35.11, with freshman Steven Anker (Gahr HS) finishing the race in 17:06.19, which put him in 235th place.

UC Irvine 4-Way Meet: Although they weren't included in the team scoring, the Falcons turned in some solid marks on the day. In the running events, sophomore Nick Garcia (St. Anthony HS) posted the sixth fastest time in the 100 meters at 11.17, while sophomore Prinz Singson (Cheyenne Central, WY HS) recorded a time of 22.97 in the 200 meters, which was the fourth fastest that was turned in. Freshman Jhamani Long (Gahr HS) posted the fourth fastest time in the 400 meters (50.28), with sophomore Isaiah Marshall (Carson HS) recording a time of 1:54.69 in the 800 meters, which was the second best on the day.

Sophomore hurdler Dario Robinson (Schurr HS) placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.54, while his time of 56.40 was the fourth best in the 400-meter HH. The 400-meter relay team of sophomore Clifford Scott (Carson HS), Long, sophomore Ricardo Thomas (Warren HS) and Garcia posted the second fastest time of 42.63, with the 400-meter relay team of freshman Jah'mal King (Bellflower HS), Long, freshman Reginald Winans (Long Beach Poly HS) and Thomas turning in a second place time of 3:17.19.

High jumper Vincent Calhoun (Long Beach Poly HS) came in first place with a height of 2.03 meters, while sophomore pole vaulter Andrew Hladek (Liberty, NV HS) tied for fifth place with a clearance of 4.30 meters. The team also entered all 13 of their throwers in multiple events, with the best finishes being a sixth place in the javelin by sophomore Tristan Escobar (Bell Gardens HS) an 52.61 meters and freshman Isaiah Chavez (Downey HS) placing seventh in the shot put at 13.22 meters.
