Playing their entire non-conference season on the road for the second year in a row, the Cerritos College women's soccer team improved to 6-0-0 after a 2-0 shutout win on Friday. The Falcons, ranked #1 in the country by the NSCAA, were in Washington and defeated Clark (WA) Community College, which was also the team's third straight shutout. They will head back north on September 25 for an 11:00 a.m. game at Fresno City College.

Cerritos played their second straight game without sophomore starting goalie Ruby Nichols (Bishop Amat HS), but freshman Arianna Armijo (North Torrance HS) has stepped in and not allowed a goal in either contest. She turned away four shots by the Penguins (5-2-0).

Both goals were scored in the first half, with the first coming in the 15th minute off a set piece. Sophomore Jill Messersmith (Newport Harbor HS) sent the corner from the right side and found sophomore Amber Whitmore (Los Alamitos HS) at the back post, where she was able to head the ball home.

Prior to the end of the first half, the Falcons struck again off another set piece. Sophomore Dana Jacobs (Yorba Linda HS/San Francisco State University) sent her free kick over the Clark defenders, with freshman Ashli Villalobos (Mayfair HS/Cal State Los Angeles) able to gain control of the ball and scored into an unattended part of the net.

As a team, Cerritos took 23 shots, with nine of them on target. The trio of Natalie de Leon (St. Joseph HS), Itzel Ballesteros (Maywood Academy HS) and Maria Hernandez (Sierra Vista HS) accounted for 13 of the shots.
