W. Soccer: Duo of players earn All-America honors

A pair of Cerritos College women's soccer players, who helped the team win their fifth consecutive CCCAA State Championship, have been named All-Americans. The Falcons, who were named the NSCAA Division III (non-scholarship) National Champions for the fourth time in the last five years, also had two others receive post-season honors. The Falcons have now had 21 All-American selections in the last 11 seasons.

Sophomore defender Dana Jacobs (Yorba Linda HS/San Francisco State University), who was named the state tournament Most Valuable Player, was selected 2nd Team All-America. She is joined by sophomore midfielder Carolina Jaramillo (Cetis 54, Tijuana HS), who earned 2nd Team All-America honors for the second season in a row.

Caro Jaramillo was named 2nd Team All-America for the second year in a row In addition to their All-America recognition, the duo were also named 1st Team All-West Region, while Jacobs also received All-Southern Region honors by the CCCSCA. Jacobs, the South Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was the anchor of the defense that posted 15 shutouts, including a 2-0 win over Diablo Valley College in the state championship game. She also had one goal and eight assists on the season. As for Jaramillo (pictured, left), she was limited to just 14 games on the year, but tied for third in the state in assists (17) and was eighth in points (55) and second on the team with 19 goals.

Freshman forward Itzel Ballesteros (Maywood Academy HS), who led the team in goals (22) and points (59), while finishing third in assists (15), was selected 2nd Team All-West Region, as well as to the All-Southern Region team. She was also voted the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. The fourth Falcon player to receive postseason honors was freshman Maria Hernandez (Sierra Vista HS), who was an All-Southern Region selection. The 1st Team all-conference pick recorded eight goals and 12 assists this season.
