Holding on to a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cerritos College baseball team saw host Mt. San Jacinto College score seven times to post an 11-6, 8-inning win on Wednesday. The Falcons (1-7) will play their third road game of the week on Friday when they travel to College of the Canyons for a 2:00 p.m. game.

Helping the team get out to their lead was sophomore shortstop Trevor McInerney (Cerritos HS/El Camino College), who clubbed a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the team in front, 5-3. With sophomore first baseman Roberto Salazar, Jr. (Fullerton HS) on second base, freshman second baseman Alejandro Bueno (Centennial, NV HS) drew a two-out walk. Up stepped McInerney, who hit his first round-tripper of the season.

Sophomore starting pitcher Joshua Jorgensen (Lakewood HS/East Los Angeles College) had his struggles on the mound, but left after five inning with a lead after allowing three runs on five hits. He did walk five and hit a pair of batters, but worked out of jams with his nine strikeouts. Freshman John Chavez (St. John Bosco HS) retired all three batters he faced in the bottom of the sixth inning, but allowed a walk and RBI double to start the seventh inning.

Freshman Vincent Martin (Chandler, AZ HS) came on in relief and gave up a run-scoring double and an infield single that tied the game. The Eagles took advantage of an error to keep the inning alive and made the most of it, as it scored a run, while a three-run double was followed to finish off the scoring.

The Falcons were able to get one of the runs back in the top of the eighth inning on a RBI double from freshman designated hitter Shea Estrin (West HS), but left a runner on third base. After Mt. San Jacinto batted in the bottom of the inning, the umpires ruled that it was too dark to continue the game and it ended after eight innings.

Sophomore catcher Andre Alvarez (Walnut HS) went 3-for-4, while Salazar added a pair of hits. Bueno also reached base three times via walks.
