With a four-game week ahead of them, the Cerritos College baseball team suffered an 11-2 South Coast Conference loss at the hands of host Long Beach City College on Saturday. Starting on Monday with a make-up game at Golden West College, the Falcons (6-24) will be playing three games in as many days at the Allan Hancock Tournament. It opens with a 6:00 p.m game with Fresno City College at Elks Field, followed by a game at Cuesta College on Thursday and on their way home, the team will stop in Bakersfield to take on the Renegades.
Sophomore starting pitcher Joshua Jorgensen (Lakewood HS/East Los Angeles College) lasted just four innings against the Vikings (22-12, 15-4), but was victimized by several errors that led to four unearned runs. In his time on the mound, Jorgensen also struck out nine batters. Freshman Mark Gil (Norwalk HS) did a fine job in relief, as he tossed three hitless innings to end the game.
The Falcons had their chances to score, but wound up leaving 11 runners on base. After loading the bases with one out in the first inning, they came away empty, while they also loaded them in the fourth inning. Sophomore shortstop Trevor McInerney (Cerritos HS/El Camino College) hit a solo home run, his team-leading sixth, before freshman second baseman Alejandro Bueno (Centennial, NV HS) singled. Freshman outfielder Nicholas Martinez (La Serna HS) was then walked, and when freshman outfielder Shea Estrin (West Torrance HS) singled, the bases were loaded. However, freshman outfielder Wyatt Hall (Long Beach Millikan HS) was unable to cash in any runs.
Cerritos scored their other run in the eighth inning when freshman catcher Gregory Navarro III (West Covina HS) led off with a base hit and moved to second on a single from sophomore designated hitter Cody Ahrens (Mayfair HS/Hope International University). With one out, freshman third baseman Matt Den Hartog (Los Alamitos HS) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Bueno led the way with three of the Falcons nine hits, with Estrin collecting two on the day.
