After the first day of the South Coast Conference men's swimming championships, Cerritos College sits in fifth place with 144 team points. The three-day event, which is taking place at East Los Angeles College, resumes on Friday for seven more events.

In the 200-yard freestyle, the quartet of Michael Reyes (Cerritos HS), Abimael Anorve (Mira Costa HS), Kobe Hurtado (Cerritos HS) and Silvestre Chavez (Downey HS) finished in fourth place with a time of 1:31.28. They were edged out of third by by a mere .04 second by East Los Angeles. The day ended for the Falcons with the 400-yard medley relay, as the team of Gaddiel Gil (Paramount HS), Joey Hurtado (Cerritos HS), Daniel Benitez (Paramount HS) and Rene Borja (Schurr HS) posted a fifth place time of 4:15.46.

In individual events, Chavez earned fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle when he was clocked in at 22.98, while Reyes was a close seventh place in a time of 23.20. The 200-yard IM saw Benitez come in 13th place when he touched up in 2:19.85.
