In their first competition of the season, the Cerritos College men's track & field team won a pair of events at the Orange Coast Open on Saturday. The team will now host the South Coast Conference Open at 9:00 a.m. next Saturday.
Picking up wins on the day for the Falcons were the 3200-meter relay team, as well as freshman thrower Nasser Brown (Long Beach Millikan HS). The quartet of Colby Owens (Milford Mill Academy, MD HS), Caleb Dunomes (Long Beach Poly HS), Joe Munoz and Jose Garcia Chavez (Norwalk HS) recorded a first place time of 8:24.78 to beat the rest of the field. As for Brown, his distance of 40.74 meters in the discus was was over four feet further than his closest competition.
Also posting good marks for Cerritos on the day were Maurice Jackson (Long Beach Jordan HS), who placed second in the 400-meter IH at 58.05, while Javone Brown (Long Beach Jordan HS) came in third place in the 60-meter HH in a time of 9.92. Joseph Medina (Bell Gardens HS) recorded a fourth place throw of 33.57 meters in the hammer.
