As one of only two community colleges competing in the Stanislaus State Invitational on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's track and field team finished in fourth place. The Falcons, who finished with 70 team points, placed ahead of Fresno City College, who came in fifth place with 52 team points. The team will now compete in the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational on Thursday.
Making his season debut, sophomore LaVelle Sowell (Carson HS) placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.85. He was beat out only by an unattached runner. Sophomore Jaheim Williams (Compton HS) was right behind in fourth place at 10.89. As for sophomore Colby Owens (Milford Mill Academy, MD HS), he turned in the fastest time of the day in the 200 meters at 21.65.
Both relay teams did fairly well, as the 400-meter relay quartet of Dylan Dominguez (El Rancho HS), Jemar Armstrong (Rancho Dominguez Prep HS), Maurice Jackson (Long Beach Jordan HS) and Jordan Crowdus (Cabrillo HS) took fifth place in a time of 43.70, with the 1600-meter relay foursome of Owens, Jacob Jimenez (El Rancho HS), Crowdus and Armstrong finished with a third place time of 3:24.12.
In the throwing events, freshman Nasser Brown (Long Beach Millikan HS) recorded a pair of fourth place results. His distance of 12.31 meters in the shot put put him in fourth place, while he matched that result with a discus throw of 39.62 meters.
