Paced by a second and third place finish, the Cerritos College men's track and field team finished in seventh place at the Southern California Championships on Friday. The Falcons compiled 30 team points and will send those who qualified to the 3C2A State Championships next weekend at San Mateo College.

The best individual finish of the day was sophomore Colby Owens (Milford Mill Academy, MD HS), who took second place in the 400 meters with a time of 48.20. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that turned in a sixth place time of 3:18.16. The foursome consisted of Bryce Pearson (Bellflower HS), Jemar Armstrong (Rancho Dominguez Prep HS), Jacob Jimenez (El Rancho HS) and Owens. It was also a sixth place result for the 4x100-meter relay time of LaVelle Sowell (Carson HS), Armstrong, Jimenez and Jaheim Williams (Compton HS) with a clocking of 42.07.

In the field events, thrower Micah Norfles (Marina HS) came in third place in the hammer at 49.54 meters, with Nasser Brown (Long Beach Millikan HS) qualifying for the state championships after a fifth place distance of 44.24 in the discus.
