Results

On the strength of four first place finishes, the Cerritos College men's track and field team finished in second place at the South Coast Conference Championships on Saturday. The Falcons finished with 142 team points, and matched their second place finish from last season. Next up will be the Southern California Prelims, which will take place next Friday at San Diego Mesa College.

Sophomore Colby Owens (Milford Mill Academy, MD HS) won the conference championship in the 400 meters with a time of 48.32, while his clocking of 21.63 earned him a second place result in the 200 meters. Owens also ran a leg in both relay races. The 4x100-meter relay team of Dylan Dominguez (El Rancho HS), LaVelle Sowell (Carson HS), Owens and Jaheim Williams (Compton HS) finished in third place with a time of 41.47 and were edged out of second place by El Camino College, who crossed the finish line in 41.46.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Jacob Jimenez (El Rancho HS), Owens, Dominguez and Jordan Crowdus (Cabrillo HS) recorded a second place time of 3:19.27 and were able to hold off the Warriors this time.

In the field events, throwers Micah Norfles (Marina HS) and Nasser Brown (Long Beach Millikan HS) each won conference titles. For Norfles, it was in the hammer, where is distance of 50.92 meters defeated the rest of the field, while Brown picked up his first place finish in the discus. His best throw of 43.29 meters was a good four meters ahead of his closest competition. The fourth conference title came in the decathlon, which was won by Javone Brown (Long Beach Jordan HS) and took place back on April 4-5.
