On Friday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team was the lone school that entered at least five runners, which is how a team score is determined. Running in the Coach Downey Classic in San Diego, the Falcons took first place and had 13 of the 26 total runners in the event, which included entries from four other schools. The team will return to San Diego next Friday for the San Diego Mesa Invitational, which will take place at NTC Park at Liberty Station.

Of the overall runners, Cerritos posted the third through fifth fastest times, with sophomore Joshua Williams (Los Alamitos HS) recording a time of 23:03, while the duo of Ryan Perdomo (El Rancho HS) and Justin Loague (Buena Park HS) were right behind in 23:22 and 23:23, respectively. Not far behind was the trio of Isaac Gonzalez (Norwalk HS), who placed seventh overall with a clocking of 23:46, with Jose Garcia (Norwalk HS) finishing the course in 24:06 and Joe Munoz (Long Beach Jordan HS) turning in a time of 24:07 to finish in eighth and ninth places overall.

The 11th through 14th place finishers were also Falcons, as Joshua Granados (California HS) was timed in 24:50, with Roy Garcia (Salesian HS) 10 seconds back in a time of 25:00. Also keeping close to that pack was Omar Reina (El Rancho HS), who finished in 25:09, good for 13th place, with Marcus Hughes (Carson HS) checking in with a time of 25:20.

Also running for Cerritos were Daniel Gomez (Santa Fe HS; 26:06; 16th place), Jorge Reyes (El Rancho HS; 26:06, 17th place) and Nathan Morelli (Bellflower HS; 29:13; 23rd place).
