With their 61-49 win over rival Long Beach City College on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College women's basketball team moved into second place in the South Coast Conference South Division. The victory was the third divisional win in a row for the Falcons (15-11, 3-1), who will host first place El Camino College at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The game also starts the second round of divisional play.

A low-scoring first half netted Cerritos a slim 23-21 advantage after opening the game with a 16-4 advantage. After the Vikings (15-9, 2-2) tied the game at 31-31 with 3:32 left in the third quarter, the Falcons went on a 18-4 run, with freshman Jesenia Rendon (Carson HS) getting the rally started with a three-pointer. Freshman Carolina Cuevas (Legacy HS), who came off the bench, added seven points in the team's run that eventually led to their win.

Cerritos extended their lead to 53-39 when sophomore Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS) hit a short jumper in the lane, while the Falcons converted eight of their final 10 free throws to hold off the Vikings in the final minutes. Sophomore Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) accounted for all eight of her points from the free throw line, with the team finishing 16-for-28 from the free throw line.

Serena Rendon (Carson HS) and Clark (nine rebounds) each scored 13 points in the win, while Cuevas contributed seven points and six boards. Also playing well was Jesenia Rendon, who concluded with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
