Holding a one-point lead at intermission (32-31), the Cerritos College women's basketball team were on the road looking to snap their four-game losing streak. However, a disastrous second half, including a 23-8 third quarter, put the Falcons on the wrong side of a 77-57 decision against host El Camino College in their South Coast Conference South Division game on Wednesday night. Cerritos (12-11) had their losing skid extend to five games, and will look to break that next Wednesday when they host Los Angeles Southwest College at 5:00 p.m.

In the first 20 minutes, the Falcons rode the outside shooting of freshman Serena Rendon (Carson HS), who led all scorers with 17 points, which included five three-pointers. It didn't look as though Cerritos would be competitive in the game, as the Warriors scored the first eight points to start the night. It was a three-pointer from freshman Gillian Yamasaki (South Torrance HS) that got the team on the board. The team's first three baskets of the game came from long distance, with a Rendon trey putting the team in front, 16-14 with :51 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Both teams struggled to score at the start of the second quarter, with Rendon dropping a shot from three-point range with 7:19 left in the half for a 19-16 advantage. Heading into the second half with a one-point lead, Cerritos saw El Camino match their 8-0 start in the second half the same way they did to start the game. However, there would be no comeback, with the Falcons converting just 2-of-9 field goals and committed nine turnovers in the third quarter.

Yamasaki was the team's lone shooting success in the second half, as she accounted for 13 of her team-high 18 points, with nine of those points coming in three-pointers. The Warriors received 75 of their 77 points from their starting five, who went 25-of-45 from the field. Rendon didn't score at all in the second half, with sophomore Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) recording nine points, four assists and three rebounds off the bench. Freshman Carolina Cuevas (Legacy HS) led the team with eight boards before fouling out.
