The Cerritos College women's basketball team was seeded #17 for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons (17-13), who finished in a tie for second place in the South Coast Conference South Division, will travel to #16-seeded Antelope Valley (15-13) for a 7:00 p.m. first round game on Wednesday. The winner of the game will face #1-seeded Palomar (27-1) on Saturday.

It's a return to the post-season for Cerritos, who missed the playoffs last year for the just the second time in the last 25 years. The game against the Maraunders will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams. Antelope Valley finished in second place in the Western State Conference East Division.

The Falcons are led by South Coast Conference South Division Freshman of the Year Serena Rendon (Carson HS), who averages 17.4 points a game, along with a state-leading 85.6 free throw percentage. She also is tied for the state lead with 94 three-pointers, which is a school record and averages 5.1 rebounds a game. Joining her on the offensive attack are freshman Jesenia Rendon (Carson HS), who averages 12.3 points and sophomore Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS), who accounts for 10.1 points a game. Jesenia Rendon (4.5 rebounds) is third on the team with 36 three-pointers, which sophomore Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS) just ahead of her with 37 treys. Clark leads the team with 6.6 rebounds a game, while Jessica Gomez (Legacy HS) comes off the bench to average 7.9 points and 3.6 rebounds a game.

As for Antelope Valley, they have been led this season by Deja Smith, who averages 17.4 points, while Shantanel Bivens scores at a 13.7 points per game clip, and also averages 12.3 rebounds a game. Smith is their top three-point shooter with 62 treys on the season to go along with 6.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Aniyah Terry has also been instrumental in their success this season by averaging 7.2 points and 6.8 rebounds a game with Brieanna Perkins second on the team with 42 three-pointers and a 6.8 scoring average.

On the season, the Falcons have gone 3-10 against teams that have qualified for the playoffs, while Antelope Valley also went 3-10 against post-season teams.
