With a chance to own sole possession of second place in the South Coast Conference South Division, the Cerritos College women's basketball team suffered a 73-69 loss at the hands of host Long Beach City College on Friday. It was the regular season finale for the Falcons (17-13, 5-3), who finished in a tie for second place with the Vikings. Next up will be the Southern California Regional Playoffs, with the selection meeting scheduled to take place Monday morning. There are 18 teams that qualify for the post-season, with the bottom four seeds (15-18) playing on Wednesday, February 21.

In a game that had seven ties and seven lead changes, the Falcons held their final lead of the game at 66-64 after freshman Jesenia Rendon (Carson HS) drained a three-pointer with 3:02 left in the fourth quarter. It turned out to be the last points the team would score until Rendon hit a three-pointer with :01 left in the game. During their 3:01 dry spell, Cerritos went 0-for-4 with a pair of turnovers, with the Vikings scoring nine straight points to record the win.

The Falcons led the entire first quarter and early into the second quarter until the Vikings took a 17-16 lead with 9:31 left in the half on a three-pointer from Doylebonet Walker. A three-pointer from sophomore guard Angie Ferreira (Long Beach Millikan HS), followed by a pair of free throws from freshman Miranda Ta'amu (Los Alamitos HS) drew the team into a 23-23 tie with 7:21 on the clock in the second quarter. It was a slim 33-32 lead for LBCC at intermission.

A six-point deficit (38-32) early in the third quarter eventually became a 50-41 lead with 3:32 left in the third quarter after an 18-2 run. During that run, Rendon accounted for six points, while Ferreira and sophomore Alexis Clark (Mayfair HS) each added four points. It would be the largest lead for either team on the night, but it wouldn't last too long. By the end of the third quarter, the Vikings had pulled to within 52-50 with 10 minutes left to play.

Rendon finished the night with a team-high 23 points and added five rebounds, with Clark (13 points, nine rebounds) and Ferreira (eight points, three steals) also playing well. The Falcons leading scorer, freshman Serena Rendon (Carson HS), was limited to just eight points on 2-of-11 shooting, while Ta'amu provided eight points and six rebounds.
