For the second straight start this season, sophomore pitcher Ryan Arambula (Bell Gardens HS) pitched deep into a game without allowing a run. In his first start of the season, he shut out College of the Canyons for seven innings in a 2-0 loss. On Saturday against visiting Santa Ana College, Arambula allowed just two hits in eight innings, as the Falcons (4-1) defeated the Dons, 2-0. The team will play their first road game of the season on Tuesday when they travel to Golden West College for a 2:00 p.m. contest.

Cerritos scored a pair of unearned runs against five Santa Ana (4-1-1) pitchers. In the bottom of the second inning, sophomore shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS) landed on second base after a throwing error by third baseman Troy Baird. With two outs, sophomore second baseman Justin Walsh (Katella HS) singled up the middle to drive in the run. Sophomore designated hitter Kyle Carpenter (Mayfair HS) opened the sixth inning with a base hit and advanced to second on a passed ball. After a fielding error by Santa Ana second baseman Alex Mascarenas put runners at first and third, freshman catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS) brought home the second run with a sacrifice fly.

The two runs would be enough for Arambula (1-0), who also struck out four and walked four batters. He worked out of a situation in the fifth inning when he walked Patrick Cromwell and then hit Sam Lemmon. An infield out put the runners at second and third base with two outs. But Tanner Negrete flew out to end the threat.

Freshman closer Jerald Johnston (California HS) earned his second save of the season, but experienced some trouble of his own. After recording the first two outs, he walked both Colin Winn and Cromwell. A passed ball put the runners on second and third base. But Johnson struck out Jesus Saldana looking for the final out of the game.
