In the final two innings of their 3-2 South Coast Conference win, the Cerritos College baseball team had to hold off visiting East Los Angeles College. The Huskies (11-17, 5-8), who scored their second run of the game in the top of the eighth inning, left the bases loaded in the final two innings. The Falcons (16-12, 8-5) saw sophomore pitcher Ryan Arambula (Bell Gardens HS) pitch the first 7 2/3 innings, while relief pitchers George Mendoza (Bell Gardens HS) and Jerald Johnston (California HS) finished the game.

In the eighth inning, Arambula (6-3) recorded the first two outs of the inning, but then allowed a single to Samuel Medina and hit Cesar Murrillo. Mendoza came on and got Larson Anzaldo to hit a hard grounder to sophomore third baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS), who allowed the ball to roll through his legs for a run to score. A walk to Joshua Carrasco loaded the bases before Johnny Salgado flied out deep to center field.

Mendoza opened the ninth inning by walking Anthony Mendoza, which brought on Johnston. A sacrifice bunt and a pop up accounted for the first two outs of the inning. But a walk to Chris Flores and an intentional walk to Medina loaded the bases. Pinch-hitter Jorge Manzo lined out to sophomore first baseman Brett Thompson (Corona del Mar HS/Saddleback College) to end the game and earned Johnston his fourth save of the season.

The Falcons broke open a scoreless game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off starting pitcher George Alamillo (4-2). Sophomore outfielder Nick Vasquez (El Rancho HS) drew a walk to start the inning. Freshman second baseman Andrew Natividad (Valencia HS) squared up to bunt, but pulled back and dropped a base hit over Salgado's head at third base for a single. Freshman outfielder Mark Pena (Bell Gardens HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After two outs were record, freshmen catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS) drew a walk to drive in the first run, with Guadalupe lacing a base hit for the second run.

Natividad, who was making his first start of the season, hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and finished with two hits and two runs scored.
