Playing their first road game of the season, the Cerritos College baseball team was defeated by Golden West College, 4-2 on Tuesday. The Falcons (4-2) return to Kincaid Field on Thursday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game against Mt. San Jacinto College.

In the loss to the Rustlers (5-1), Cerritos was locked in a 1-1 game until the bottom of the sixth inning when they surrendered a pair of runs. Freshman Valentin Flores-Gomez (Gahr HS) was pitching extremely well until a leadoff walk was followed by a single and a throwing error by sophomore third baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS). The next batter, Chris Williams, doubled in both runners for a 3-1 Golden West lead.

It was a 4-1 game until the top of the ninth inning when the Falcons started a rally. Sophomore Edgar Menendez (Katella HS) led off with a base hit, while freshman catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS) added a base hit to put runners and first and second base with one out. Down to their last out, sophomore shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS) laced a double that scored a run. With the game-tying runners in scoring position, sophomore outfielder Shane Preston (Deer Creek, OK HS) grounded out to end the game.

Flores-Gomez (0-1) went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned), while striking out seven batters. Sophomore Andrew Bueno (St. John Bosco HS) pitched the final two innings and surrendered a run on three hits.
