For the second year in a row, the Cerritos College baseball team saw their season come to an end with a playoff loss at home. On Tuesday, the Falcons (22-15) dropped a 6-2 decision to Riverside City College (22-15) in a play-in game and were seeded #15 for the post-season. The Tigers were seeded #18 and will now advance to play #1-seeded Palomar College this weekend.

Aside from solo home runs from Brody Weiss in the first inning and Thomas Pincin in the second inning, Riverside had one big inning, as they scored four runs after two outs were recorded. On the day, the Tigers posted four runs, four hits and drew four walks after the Falcon pitchers had gotten two outs in an inning. After the dreaded third inning, Cerritos held Riverside to three hits the rest of the way.

Trailing 6-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Falcons were able to load the bases and had their most feared hitter in the lineup coming to the plate - sophomore third baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS).  Facing relief pitcher Tyler Rowe, Guadalupe popped up to catcher Pincin in four territory on the first pitch, ending the game. On the day, Riverside pitchers got out Cerritos batters out on 19 fly balls, with nine of them in foul territory.

With two outs and bases loaded in the third inning, Pincin drove in two runs with a single up the middle off sophomore starting pitcher Ryan Arambula (Bell Gardens HS). Anthony Ayala and Garrison Cole followed with RBI singles off relief pitcher Travis Bonner (Cabrillo HS). Riverside was able to load the bases in the fourth inning, but Bonner got Pincin to ground out.

For the Falcons, they scored single runs in the third and eighth innings. Freshman outfielder Mark Pena (Bell Gradens HS) drew a walk to lead off the inning and advanced to second base on a foul ball out. With two outs, freshman catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS) singled up the middle to get the team on the board. Cerritos left runners in scoring position in three of the first five innings and then again the bases loaded in the ninth. James hit a one-out triple in the eighth and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman designated hitter Jesse Perdomo (California HS).
