Twice in the last seven games, one run was enough offense for the Cerritos College baseball team to win a game. On Thursday against ECC Compton Center, the Falcons were held to one run for the second time in a row, with this resulting in a 5-1 loss to Kincaid Field. It was also the eighth time this year that the team scored one run or less in a game. The two teams will finish the third game of their series on Saturday at noon in Compton.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore third baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) tripled into left-center field with out out. Freshman catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS) followed with a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Guadalupe and get the team to within a 2-1 score.

However, in the top of the seventh inning, sophomore relief pitcher George Mendoza (Bell Gardens HS) gave up a two-out, two-run home run to Martin Teague, while Randy Rubio singled home Teague with the fifth run of the game in the ninth inning.

Cerritos did load the bases in the fourth inning with the game scoreless. Two-out singles by James and sophomore outfielder Shane Preston (Deer Creek, OK HS), along with a walk to freshman first baseman Gavin Callender (La Serna HS) set the table for freshman outfielder Jesse Perdomo (California HS), who grounded back to the pitcher to end the inning. Compton pitcher Joe Fernandez, who was a member of the Falcons last season, earned the win by pitching 7 1/3 innings. Freshman Valentin Flores-Gomez (Gahr HS) took the loss for the Falcons
