Cerritos College sophomore third baseman Victor Guadalupe (La Quinta HS) blasted a pair of home runs and drove in five runs in an 11-2 South Coast Conference win over Long Beach City College at Joe Hicks Field on Thursday. The win by the Falcons (12-8, 6-2) put the team back in a tie with the Vikings (10-9, 6-2) for second place. The two teams finish their three-game series on Saturday at noon at Kincaid Field.

Guadalupe gave Cerritos a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a home run off starting pitcher Tanner Levine (3-1) after freshman Mike Heenan (JSerra HS) reached on an error and stole second base. With the Falcons leading 3-1 after an RBI triple from freshman outfielder Jesse Perdomo (California HS), Guadalupe finished off a five-run sixth inning with another two-run round-tripper.

In the sixth, sophomore Brett Thompson (Corona del Mar HS/Saddleback HS) doubled in a pinch-hitting role to lead off the stanza. With runners at first and third and one out, freshman shortstop Benny Arce (Santa Monica HS) laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that brought home Thompson. Heenan followed with a two-run double, which set the table for Guadalupe.

Freshman starting pitcher Valentin Flores-Gomez (Gahr HS) earned his third win of the season by pitching the first six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits. Sophomores George Mendoza (Bell Gardens HS) and Andrew Bueno (St. John Bosco HS) tossed the final three innings and combined for four strikeouts.

On the day, Heenan scored four times and drove in a pair, while Guadalupe finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI. Perdomo added three hits and drove in two runs.
