Trailing 6-0 after four innings, the Cerritos College baseball team scored seven unanswered runs to post a 7-6, 10-inning win over Golden West College on Saturday. The Falcons (7-4), who were shut out by the Rustlers (10-3) three days earlier, tied the game with three runs in the eighth inning. They will host Los Angeles Mission College on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.  in their final game before the start of South Coast Conference play.

After tying the game in the eighth inning, Cerritos took their only lead of the game with a run in the 10th inning. Sophomore outfielder Fermin Beza (California HS/William Jessup University) led off with a triple to get the inning started. Facing relief pitcher Rick Winfield, freshman second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS) laced a run-scoring double for a 7-6 lead.

Sophomore relief pitcher Jerald Johnston (California HS), who has posted a pair of two-inning saves on the year, earned his first win of the season by pitching a perfect 10th inning, his third of the game. Johnston allowed just one hit in his three innings of work.

The Falcons scored three runs in the fifth and eighth innings to tie the game. In the fifth, Edwards led off with a single, with sophomore first baseman Mike Heenan (JSerra HS) drawing a walk. Freshman designated hitter Emiliano Estrada (Long Beach Poly HS) got the team on the board with an RBI single, with sophomore outfielders Mark Pena (Bell Gardens HS) and Kenton McDonald (Long Beach Poly HS) following with run scoring singles. The hit by Pena extended his hitting streak to 23 games dating back to last season.

Heenan came to the plate in the eighth inning with two runners on after Beza and Edwards both singled with two outs. He followed with a two-run triple to right field and then came home with the tying run on an error by outfielder Nick Tingrides.

Edwards and Estrada led the Falcons with three hits each, while Beza and sophomore shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS) each had two hits. Sophomore relief pitcher Travis Bonner (Cabrillo HS) tossed 4 2/3 innings of relief and allowed two runs on six hits and retired seven of the last nine batters he faced.
