Looking to get their game in before more rain hits Southern California, the Cerritos College baseball team was able to post an 8-1 South Coast Conference win over Pasadena City College on Saturday. The win by the Falcons (16-10, 8-3) secures their fourth straight series win, with the two teams playing the third game on Monday at 2:30 p.m. in a rain make-up game from Thursday. After the game against the Lancers (8-18, 2-9), Cerritos will start a series against crosstown rival Long Beach City College.

Cerritos opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a single from sophomore outfielder Fermin Beza (California HS/William Jessup University) and a double from sophomore catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS). A sacrifice fly from sophomore outfielder Kenton McDonald (Long Beach Poly HS) got the team on the board, while a dropped fly ball by Lancer outfielder Anthony Rabito allowed a second run to score.

For his second start in a row, sophomore Jonathan Marriott (La Quinta HS) turned in a quality start, as he pitched the first seven innings and allowed one run (unearned) and two hits while striking out five. The win improved his record to 4-2, with sophomore Travis Bonner (Cabrillo HS) tossing the final two innings.

The Falcons broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the big hit being a two-out, three-run home from by Beza. A pair of throwing errors by PCC third baseman Fidel Hernandez got Cerritos in scoring position, with the second allowing a run to score. That set the table for Beza, who hit his second home run of the season. Sophomore first baseman Mike Heenan (JSerra HS) doubled in a run in the sixth inning, with sophomore outfielder Mark Pena (Bell Gardens HS) closing out the scoring with an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Heenan finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Pena, Beza and James all added two hits in the win.
