In two seasons with the Cerritos College baseball team, sophomore Mike Heenan (JSerra HS) started at three different positions in the infield. His versatility in the field, coupled with a strong year at the plate, was enough to catch the interest of Division II power Chico State University. Heenan, who batted .299 with 23 RBI and a team-leading 32 walks this season, has announced he will be transferring to the play for the Wildcats next season. He's the third Falcon to move on to the four-year lelev, joining Daniel Lopez (University of Portland) and closer Jerald Johnston (Oklahoma Wesleyan University).

As a freshman, Heenan started at both second base and shortstop, while serving as the designated hitter. He was the team's starting first baseman his sophomore year and made the transition after a couple of roster changes forced him to play the position. He excelled as a first baseman and made just five errors in 430 total chances for a .988 fielding percentage.

Versatile Mike Heenan commits to Chico State Heenan had four three-hit games during the season and saw his 11-game hitting streak come to an end in the final game of the year. Three of his three-hit outings came in South Coast Conference games, and finished with a .307 average. Heenan drew a season-high four walks in games against Fresno City College and ECC Compton Center, while his 32 free passes tied him for eighth place in the state and tied for fourth in Southern California.

He joins a Chico State team that as won two NCAA Division II World Series titles (1997 & 1997), while they reached the National Championship game in 2002 and 2006. Their storied history also includes nine College World Series appearances, with the most recent coming in 2014. They finished this past season with a 35-22 record and lost consecutive games at the West Regional after winning their fourth California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament.
