During the week, the Cerritos College baseball team played three games in Central California and won one of the three contests. The Falcons (12-9) dropped a 10-4 decision to Fresno City College on the first day and came right back for a 9-2 victory over Merced College. On the final day, the team was defeated, 5-3 by College of the Canyons. Cerritos will now resume South Coast Conference play and start a three-game series with East Los Angeles College and play at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cerritos vs. Fresno City: Trailing 2-0 after the first four innings, the Falcons were able to score once in the fifth inning to get within a run. With one out, sophomore shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS) doubled and scored on an infield single by sophomore outfielder Mark Pena (Bell Gardens HS). Cerritos added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead, but the Rams tied the game in the bottom of the stanza and added six runs in the bottom of the eighth to break the game open. In the sixth inning, sophomore catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS) and freshman second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS) led off with consecutive walks. Freshman designated hitter Emiliano Estrada (Long Beach Poly HS) advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt before a two-out walk to sophomore outfielder Kenton McDonald (Long Beach Poly HS) loaded the bases. Lopez was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, while walks to sophomore first baseman Mike Heenan (JSerra HS) and Pena drove in the other two runs.

Cerritos vs. Merced: Sophomore starting pitcher Jonathan Marriott (La Quinta HS) tossed 6 1/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) and just three hits to earn the win. Sophomore Travis Bonner (Cabrillo HS) finished off the game with 2 1/3 innings of four-hit baseball with five strikeouts. At the plate, the Falcons broke open a 1-1 game with seven runs in the top of the sixth inning after two outs were recorded. Heenan drew a walk, followed by an RBI triple from Pena, with James bringing him home with a double. Walks to sophomore outfielder Fermin Beza (California HS/William Jessup University) and Edwards loaded the bases for Estrada, who brought home two runs with a single. Freshman third baseman Jonathan Avila (Carson HS) added an RBI single, with McDonald finishing off the scoring in the inning with a two-run double.

Cerritos vs. College of the Canyons: In the final game of the trip, the Falcons fell behind 5-0 after five innings, with three errors leading to a four-run third inning for the Cougars. Cerritos slowly worked their way back into the game with two runs in the seventh and another in the ninth inning before leaving a runner on second base when the game ended. Consecutive singles by James and Beza were followed by a two-run double from Edwards, with an Avila single putting runners on first and third, which is how the inning ended. Edwards also drove in the third run of the game in the ninth inning. Freshman Carlos Hernandez (Pioneer HS) took the loss, while the trio of Alexander Noriega (Carson HS), Mitchell Peak (Goodpasture Christian School, TN HS) and Jerald Johnston (California HS) tossing 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball and allowed just three hits.

After getting hits in the first two games, Pena extended his school record hitting streak to 32 games. However, in the final game of the week, Pena failed to get a hit, which ends the streak.
