On Thursday, the Cerritos College baseball team committed three errors, which played a huge role in their 6-1 South Coast Conference loss to ECC Compton Center. The Falcons (8-6, 1-1) and the Tartars (2-14, 1-1) will finish their three-game series at noon on Saturday at Kincaid Field.

After the first two Compton batters reached base off sophomore starting pitcher Jonathan Marriott (La Quinta HS) in the bottom of the first inning, sophomore shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS) committed an error, which loaded the bases. An RBI single, followed by an infield out brought home the first two runs of the game. Marriott then hit the next two batters, which allowed the third run of the inning to score.

With two outs in the third inning, freshman Jonathan Avila (Carson HS) committed an error, which allowed Compton to go on and score two more runs. After Marriott hit his fourth batter of the game, he was replaced by sophomore Travis Bonner (Cabrillo HS), who walked the first batter he faced to load the bases. That was followed by a two-run single and the Falcons were trailing 5-0, although they had allowed just three hits.

Cerritos didn't score their lone run until the top of the ninth inning when freshman second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS) led off with a double. Sophomore first baseman Mike Heenan (JSerra HS) drew a walk, which led to an RBI single from freshman designated hitter Emiliano Estrada (Long Beach Poly HS).

Sophomore outfielder Mark Pena (Bell Gardens HS) extended his school record hitting streak to 26 games with a two-out double in the third inning.
