Looking for their first series sweep of the season, the Cerritos College baseball team suffered a 6-2 loss to East Los Angeles College on Saturday. The Falcons (14-10, 6-3) fell out of a tie for second place in the South Coast Conference with the loss. Next up is a three game series with Pasadena City College (8-16, 2-7), with Cerritos hosting at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the first game.

The Huskies (9-15, 4-5) scored three times in the bottom of the second inning off freshman starter Carlos Hernandez (Pioneer HS) and then added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Sophomore Travis Bonner (Cabrillo HS) came on in relief in the third inning and allowed two runs (both unearned) and struck out three, while sophomore Adrian Ramirez (Santiago HS) tossed two hitless innings.

Cerritos got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore outfielder Kenton McDonald (Long Beach Poly HS) led off with a triple. Sophomore shortstop Daniel Lopez (Montebello HS) drew a walk to put runners on first and third inning. A sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman Mike Heenan (JSerra HS) got the Falcons on the board. But that would be all the offense the team could muster until the ninth inning.

Sophomore catcher Gary James (Sunny Hills HS) drew a one-out walk and sophomore outfielder Fermin Beza (California HS/William Jessup University) followed with a double. James scored on a ground out by freshman second baseman Derrick Edwards (Mary Star of the Sea HS), but the game ended with the Falcons stranding two runners on base.
