M. Basketball: Falcons win consolation championship

The Cerritos College men's basketball team rebounded from an opening loss at the College of the Sequoias Tournament and went on to win the consolation championship. The Falcons (8-5) opened with a 75-62 loss to Oxnard College, and followed that up with wins over Pasadena City College (63-48) and then posted a 78-68 win against Shasta College in the consolation finals. The team will now travel to Allan Hancock College for a trio of games starting with a 5:00 p.m. contest against Fresno City College on December 28.

Cerritos vs. Oxnard: The Falcons were unable to hold their six-point (31-25) advantage at halftime and saw the Condors score 51 second half points. Only freshman Dillon Reise (Mayfair HS) scored in double-figures for Cerritos, as he posted 13 points off the bench and also led the way with seven rebounds. Also coming off the bench, sophomore Kyle Geer (Bassick, CT HS/Cuesta College) recorded nine points, while the duo of sophomore Khalid Washington (Los Alamitos HS/Central Wyoming College) and freshman Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS) each added eight points.

Cerritos vs. Pasadena City: Freshman Luis Medearis (View Park HS) drained a trio of three-pointers off the bench to score nine points, while Washington led the way with 16 bench points on 6-of-10 shooting. Nebo, who made 4-of-8 shots and all five free throws, finished with 13 points, with Reise producing 10 points. The Falcons held the Lancers to just 32% shooting from the field and out-rebounded them, 38-28.

Cerritos vs. Shasta: With 52 of their points coming from the bench, the Falcons were able to post the win over the Knights. The team went 11-for-31 from three-point range, with Reise leading the way with 20 points and netted four three-pointers. Medearis, who had 18 points, also made four treys, while freshman Elvis Okafor(International School of Lagos, Nigeria) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to accompany his 10 points. Geer also scored 10 points for Cerritos, who led by as many as 13 points in the game.
