After leading the Cerritos College men's basketball team to the South Coast Conference South Division championship, head coach Russ May was named the Coach of the Year. May, in his seventh year as the head coach, has led the Falcons to a 20-9 record this season, including a perfect 8-0 division record. The team will find out on Monday where they are seeded for the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Earning 1st Team All-Conference recognition include freshmen Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS), Luis Medearis (View Park HS) and Tyler Payne (La Mirada HS), as well as sophomore Khalid Washington (Los Alamitos HS/Central Wyoming College). Sophomore Kyle Geer (Bassick, CT HS/Cuesta College) earned Honorable Mention honors.

Medearis led the team in scoring in conference play (13.5) and averaged 4.6 rebounds a game and scored in double figures in seven of the eight games. He converted 81% of his free throws, while draining 15 three-pointers. As for Nebo, he accounted for 11.9 points and 4.7 rebounds a game in seven conference games, while converting 49% of his field goals. He scored 15 points in three of the games and had at least six field goals in four contests. Payne picked up his scoring to 10.6 points per game in divisional play and netted 37% of his three-pointers. His biggest game was in the first meeting against Long Beach City College, where he drained a trio of three-pointers to help the team come back from a late deficit and finished with a season-high 19 points.

Washington was second on the team in divisional scoring at 11.9 points a game, which included an 18-point game against Los Angeles Harbor College and 17 points against Los Angeles Southwest College. He also pulled down an average of 5.5 rebounds a game and converted 74% of his free throws. Geer led the team with a 6.5 rebounding average in divisional play and scored 9.8 points a game. He poured in 15 points in the first meeting against LB City and posted a season-high 17 points in a won over LA Harbor.
