In a game that could not be decided in 40 minutes, the Cerritos College men's basketball team saw their season come to an end with a 68-63 overtime loss to East Los Angeles College on Saturday night. The Falcons (21-10), seeded #13 for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, dropped their second overtime game of the season against the Huskies (25-3), who were seeded #4 for the post-season.

Aside from an early 4-2 lead, Cerritos played the majority of the game trailing the Huskies. The game played like a heavyweight fight, with both teams looking to connect on a combination of blows. Both squads played with high intensity, which hampered each of their ability to get any offensive momentum going, while the Falcons weren't able to get their high octane transition game going like it had been in the last nine games, all victories.

It wasn't until late in the second half where Cerritos finally took the lead on a basket by sophomore guard Jonathan Brown (Fairfax HS) to put them up, 50-48 with 6:38 left in the second half. Freshman guard Tyler Payne (La Mirada HS) got the team close with a three-pointer and then converted a pair of free throws to tie the game. The last lead by the Falcons was 51-50 on a Brown free throw with 5:26 remaining.

After falling behind by three points (54-51), they tied the game on a Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS) basket with 1:29 left. Nebo also tied the game with :41 seconds left in regulation. The Huskies missed their next shot and after the ball was knocked out of bounds to Cerritos, Brown turned the ball over when it deflected off his knee. East LA got off a layup in the final seconds, but missed it and the game was on to five extra minutes.

Trailing 62-59 with 1:00 left in the extra period, sophomore Khalid Washington (Los Alamitos HS/Central Wyoming College) had a great look from three-point range. His shot rattled in an out of the rim, with the Huskies getting the rebound and converting 6-of-8 free throws the rest of the way to claim the win.

Shooting was difficult for both teams on the night, with the Falcons shooting 31% from the field and East LA 39% from the field. Additionally, the two squads struggled from the free throw line, with Cerritos missing 17 free throws (25-for-42) and the Huskies only 26-of-40 from the charity stripe.

Nebo (14 points, seven rebounds), Payne (12 points, three rebounds) and sophomore Kyle Geer (Bassick, CT HS/Cuesta College), who had 10 points and seven rebounds, led the Falcons. Freshman Luis Medearis (View Park HS), who has been one of the team's best shooters in the last few weeks, failed to make a basket on the night (0-for-8), while Washington (1-for-11) pulled down seven rebounds. Cerritos out-rebounded the Huskies, 52-48.
