In their 92-81 South Coast Conference South Division win over host Los Angeles Southwest College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's basketball team had six players score in double-figures. The victory by the Falcons (14-9 2-0) keeps them in a first place tie with Long Beach City College. The team will host El Camino College (4-16, 1-2) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Facing a winless Cougars team, Cerritos got off to a slow start and trailed by seven points (12-5) in the first five minutes of the game. That was courtesy of Christian Carson, who accounted for seven of those points, en route to a 26-point night.

Slowly, the team started to come back, and relied on points in the paint. They were able to transition well and systematically wore down the Cougars. Several fast break baskets were followed by a three-pointer from freshman Luis Medearis (View Park HS), with 5:28 left in the first half and gave the Falcons a 31-30 lead they would not relinquish the remainder of the night.

Using his athletic ability, sophomore Kyle Geer (Bassick, CT HS/Cuesta College) accounted for nine points and eight rebounds in the first half, as Cerritos took a 45-37 lead into halftime. Four straight points from freshman Tyler Payne (La Mirada HS) were followed by eight consecutive points from freshman Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS), which helped the team get up by 11 points.

By the end of the night, six players were in double-figures for the Falcons, with Nebo leading the way with 15 points and five rebounds. Geer (13 points, 10 rebounds) checked in with his second straight double-double, with Medearis (six rebounds) and Payne both posting 12 points.

Off the bench, sophomore Khalid Washington (Los Alamitos HS/Central Wyoming College) posted 11 points and nine rebounds, with Jonathan Brown (Fairfax HS) also scoring 11 points and dished out a team-high six assists.
