M. Basketball: Cerritos gets convincing win over Pasadena City

Led by sophomore center Jamal Watson (Lakewood HS), the Cerritos College men's basketball team won their third straight game. The Falcons (12-8) recorded a 72-53 South Coast Conference crossover win over host Pasadena City College on Friday night. The team will now travel to East Los Angeles College for a 7:00 p.m. game on Wednesday.

As for Watson, he finished with a career-high 16 points, with eight rebounds and four blocked shots, which aided the team in their victory. He netted 6-of-7 field goals and pulled down five of his boards on the offensive end, with three of them being converted into Watson buckets.

The team was trailing 14-6 in the first half, but went on a 16-5 run over the next 4:22 to take a 22-19 lead. Freshman Tyler Payne (Mayfair HS) broke a 19-19 tie on a three-pointer with 8:35 left in the first half and Cerritos didn't trail the rest of the game.

In addtion to Watson's 16 points, freshman Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS) also produced 16 points and hit a trio of three-pointers. Both sophomore Kyle Geer (Bassick, CT HS/Cuesta College) and freshman Luis Medearis (View Park HS) each scored 10 points from the starting lineup and combined for eight rebounds.

Sophomore Jonathan Brown (Fairfax HS) came off the bench to dish a team-high six assists to accompany his six points, with sophomore Marquise Scott (Artesia HS) also scoring six points off the bench. The Falcons converted 17 Lancer (4-14) turnovers into 22 points.
