On the strength of their 81-70 South Coast Conference South Division win over host El Camino College on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's basketball team earned a share of the divisional title. The Falcons (19-9, 7-0) will look to close out conference play undefeated, as they host second place Long Beach City College (14-11, 5-1) at 7:00 p.m. in the team's annual Coaches vs. Cancer game. In their first  meeting, Cerritos came back from a 10-point deficit with a minute left in regulation and went on to win in overtime.

Fans are asked to make a minimum $5 donation for entrance into the game, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

The Vikings sit a game and a half behind Cerritos and still have an extra game to make up against Los Angeles Southwest College. The divisional title is the third in the last four seasons for the Falcons and the fourth under the guidance of seven-year head coach Russ May.

In the win over the Warriors (5-20, 2-6), Cerritos saw their lead fluctuate throughout the game, with the largest being a 45-31 advantage with 14:33 left in the game. They opened the second half leading by six points (34-28) and quickly upped their lead to double-digits on a pair of three-pointers by freshman guard Luis Medearis (View Park HS), who finished with a team-high 18 points.

As the second half progressed, El Camino fought to get to within striking distance. They closed the Cerritos lead to 57-50 with 8:36 left in the game. In a game that saw 49 fouls called (31 against El Camino), the Falcons had plenty of chances to get to the free throw line. They converted 21-of-30 in the second half and were able to maintain their lead when the trio of sophomores Kyle Geer (Bassick, CT HS/Cuesta College) and Khalid Washington (Los Alamitos HS/Central Wyoming College), along with freshman Tyler Payne (La Mirada HS) each converting a pair.

With the lead down to 72-67 with 1:48 remaining, Medearis and sophomore Jay Merriweather (Temescal Canyon HS) made both free throws, while Payne was 4-for-4 down the stretch.

Freshman Brian Nebo (St. John Bosco HS) added 15 points and five rebounds in the win, with sophomore Jonathan Brown (Fairfaix HS) finishing with 12 points off the bench. Payne (11 points, three rebounds, three assists), Merriweather (eight points, four rebounds), Geer (seven points) and Washington (seven points, six rebounds) were all keys to the team's win. El Camino received 19 points from Isiah Armstead.
