Leading 66-62 with 1:01 remaining, the Cerritos College men's basketball team saw host Irvine Valley College score the final six points of the game to come away with a win in the championships of the Irvine Valley Tournament. The Falcons were looking for their second straight tournament title, while the loss drops the Falcons to 1-2 on the year. The team travels to Citrus College for a 5:00 p.m. game on Friday.

A pair of free throws by sophomore Taeo Thomas (Verbum Dei HS) put Cerritos in front, 65-48 with 3:53 remaining in the second half, and it looked like the team was on its way to the tournament title. However, for the remainder of the game, the team was 0-for-3 from the field, 1-for-6 from the free throw line and committed seven turnovers. During that same span, the Lasers were 4-for-5 from the field with three three-pointers, as well as going 6-for-8 from the free throw line.

On the day, the Falcons missed six free throws, with five of them with the game on the line. Cerritos also out-rebounded the Lasers, 39-28.

Sophomore Cameron McCoy (Taft HS) led the team with 11 points, while freshman Blake Brewer (Orange Lutheran HS) and sophomore Miles Ceballos (Crossroads HS/Ventura College) each posted 10 points, with Ceballos also adding six rebounds and three assists. Thomas contributed eight points and seven rebounds, with sophomore Everett May (Los Alamitos HS) and freshman Dillon Botts (Mayfair HS) each scoring seven points and combined for eight rebounds.
